FUCK POLITICS
You have two choices. Obama and Romney. Neither will stop government collusion with big business. Neither wants to make significant cuts to the military budget. Neither wants to take on the military-industrial complex. Neither wants to end the war on drugs. Neither will even address the issues of prison overcrowding and prison privatization. Neither wants to make radical changes to America’s foreign policy. Those are your “two” choices.
I have actually come across the argument in the years since Obama’s election that, “He’s just waiting for the re-election, then he’s gonna go all out and fix everything.”
If he’s that good of a sleeper agent for justice and liberty, you’d think he’d have gambled everything on his first term instead of lameducking his way through this one, but regardless the argument doesn’t even make sense.
Voting just doesn’t work in America, and won’t without massive electoral reform. So while there are only two options (due to the totally fucked up nature of the system as it stands and will be standing come election day), vote Obama if you’re in a swing state. If you’re not in a swing state, vote socialist or libertarian or whatever your heart desires, because politicos in both major parties keep an eye on surges in third party votes for directions to take. So if a bunch of people vote Green, there might be some actual traction on environmental issues, for example. The reason is cynical: the next election ‘round, they want to convince you that those votes last time were wasted because they’re green enough already! That said, you can manipulate their cynicism as easily as they manipulate our economic lives. So vote for who you want to vote for!
But more importantly, fight for real change. Address the issues highlighted by Mssr. AA here in parallel to electoral reform issues, oppose both parties over the next 4 years and try and connect with likeminded people across the nation. A bunch of directionless first world people ranging from the youngest of the youth to the oldest of the old are wondering what they oughta do with their lives. Maybe the answer is: everything that needs to be done. Everything they already know needs to be done. I think “directionless” as a diagnosis is inaccurate. Poorly educated on purpose, maybe. Fed advertising and media brainwashing from cradle to grave, maybe. Lied to a lot, maybe. Hopeless, maybe.
But all those things are receiving DIY patchwork solutions via the internet. People are connecting with other people all over their country, and indeed all over the world. Perspectives are mingling, mixing, people are learning how to respect one another, to champion one another and love one another. Keep it going, people of the world. Keep it going, internet. Topple this beast someday soon, alright?
