It’s June 19th, 1501 where I am right now…in Europa Universalis III. Been playing since March of 1452, racing against the clock as Athens not to become a vassal to the dying Byzantine despotate or a conquered territory of the ever more powerful Ottomans. 50 years later and I’m running shit, and there’s no Byzantine or Ottoman empires on the fucking scene. In real history, the Ottomans hold Athens, and almost all of Greece, in 1501. Also you might note Scotland up there taking a chunk out of Sweden’s coast. Yeah that’s Sweden, not Norway…Sweden took over that shit.
God I love this game.
Is that the constituted HRE I see ? I thought those events took forever to fire and accrue Imperial Authority .
Indeed, in my game they did it pretty fucking rapidly. The Holy Roman Empire was formed by Austria and quickly took two giant bites to the East and West of themselves out of Europe. They’re only just now being contained to a relatively manageable swathe of European landscape by France, Sweden, England and Poland (the latter of which I recently devastated with peace terms that included ceding four provinces to me and letting an independent Ukraine carve itself out of a couple provinces). Luckily I keep getting Nationalist, Holy War, Tribal Conflict and the odd event-based Reconquest on the Khanates and other Muslim nations. Managed to grab the Western Mediterranean coastal provinces down to Gaza from the Mamluks, and granted Judea independence, so the Papal States are down with me right now too.
